about

Karen Ryan (low whistle, mandola), Elma McElligott (low whistle, flute), Conor Doherty (electric guitar), Pete Quinn (keyboard).
Karen learnt the first tune from Kerry box player Jim MacNamara, who used to play a regular Saturday night session in The Plough on the Hornsey Road, North London. Based on the air of the traditional song of the same name, Karen learnt the second tune from a recording of the iconic singer, Joe Heaney, from Carna, Connemara, a short distance from Karen’s mum’s birthplace. Conor has been a fan of the guitarist Arty McGlynn since childhood, and has always enjoyed playing the electric guitar for tunes, as he does here. Karen composed the third tune, naming it after her and Pete’s twin daughters, Katie and Annie (who she often calls by their Irish names). Elma and Karen collaborated once again on the final slip jig, which they jointly composed during a band rehearsal at Mill Hill Music Complex in North London.
